The
International Education Collaborative
(IEC) was established in 2007 with the initial
goal of assisting U.S. Colleges & Universities to
effectively organize themselves, on a
state-by-state basis, into (ad-hoc or formal) consortia. Each consortium serves to
increase its state's international student recruiting efforts. This process allows schools
to pool their limited resources to augment their individual
global marketing efforts. These initial consortia have had varied results,
depending on their approach, however IEC seeks to gather and
disseminate best practices to ensure optimal results for all
regions.
The
broader vision for the Collaborative is to provide a forum,
tools and support for increased international education
opportunities for the United States of America to retain its
position as the top destination for international
education worldwide. The formerly unquestioned leadership of
the USA in higher education has recently faced new challenges:
Recent Challenges
- Increasing Global Competition
- More Rigorous International Student Visa
Requirements
- Unification of European Higher Education (Bologna
Process)
- U.S. & Global Political
Climate
Together, through collaboration and
sharing of best practices, we can maximize the competitiveness of
U.S. Higher Education across the globe.
